Bit of an odd selection of articles I’ve been reading this month. There’s a couple of interesting football articles. The Moneyball idea being applied to football was pretty interesting. The stat about Maldini only making one tackle every two games makes you realise just how good the guy was. The article about the general rubbishness of Bing was interesting too. Michael Martinez regularly writes interesting content. Take a look at his archives. I also really liked the Raymond Carver article. I didn’t realise just how important Carver’s editor was to his writing process. I love Carver’s short stories, but after reading the article, it’s clear that you have to regard the work as a collaboration between great minds rather than one man’s genius. Here’s the list:

When interviewing candidates for an SEO role, I still find it quite surprising that so few bother to use anything other than the Google Adwords Tool to conduct keyword research.

What’s the point in seeking a competitive advantage when the foundations that you use for your campaigns are the same as your competition? If everybody basing their decisions on the same tool it also means everybody is also targeting the same phrases as you. Don’t waste resources competing when you don’t need to.
